250gb HDD shows as 131GB

I just got a new harddrive from Best Buy (it was IDE for only $95!). The only problem is that it shows up as 250GB on bio and on the model number, but during and in windows install it only shows up as 131GB. Is there a bad read head in it or am I doing something wrong?

System:
XP Home SP2
AMD Athlon X2 3800
1GB Ram
nVidia GeForce 6600GT

Stupid Microsoft problem. Gotta go DL a patch an all this crap. Its in their knowledge base if anyone else runs into this problem.

SP2.

After you install SP2, you’ll have your 131GB HD, and another unallocated 120GB volume :wink:

its weird i had the same problem when i got the same thing.

I had same problem, yeah you need SP2. If that doesnt work, get partition magic and it will detect it for you.
