It looks really cool, once I get a job and can afford monthly payments up the butt, I plan to get one, until then I’ll just drool over it.
definitely getting one, already called to pre-order here in auz
Actually the one solution to unlocking it:
The Online Store.
I think they are actually making you go to a store to pick one up.
oz iphone has been said to be unlocked, your choice on what plan or pre-paid account you want to go onto… the only issue is that the extra internet services will have to be placed into a package deal yet to be created (or released to the public) so it’s going to be interesting how they package those deals for both plan and pre-paid accounts and how much extra it’s going to cost me for internet access, voice mail etc…
i’m hoping to get one unlocked and go to Telstra [currently with them on my 1st gen iphone] as they have the best coverage/speed on the 3G/NextG network.
I will end up giving my 1st gen to my girlfriend or something, as i feel it will be hard to sell it
But yeh, i expected a later launch for the 3G over here… and was surprised that it will be out July 11th!
BUT i’m excited!
I’m worried that it’s going to be a long wait for the reduced price iPod Touch.
On tv today they said that AT&T will be increasing their plans 10 dollars to accommodate the new 3g support for the iPhone 2.0 plans compared to the iPhone 1.0.
How much is it for the iPhone 1.0 plans?
(@Theros, because you love the blackberry the new ones will support iTunes sync’ing).

Anybody know if the new firmware is coming to the old hardware?
Actually all original iphone owners get 2.0 for free
iPod touch owners have to pay $10 to download it

Heh, I have this crappy cell phone that came with my plan. I just don’t see the need for a smartphone yet.
The main reason i’d concider upgrading my iPhone to an iPhone 3G is for the GPS mapping. I LOVE the Google Maps app built into the iPhone, I use it all the time. One thing missing from it is the GPS functionality.
Not too bothered about 3G, but the GPS built into the phone would be soooo useful. I have a GPS myself but it’s absolute crap, I get lost using it every time
The app store looks pretty good too, it would be awesome if all the apps were free, I hate having to pay for stuff for my iPhone after i’ve just shelled out almost £300.

Yeah no kidding.
I want an iPhone so much I just can’t afford it right now, I need to have a job to pay for it. I have a samsung black jack and have it syncing with my computer and ipod nano, but I want the iphone, decent size video on the go + smartphone stuff is the big seller for me.
I’m actually planning to buy two of these. Someone just give me another reliable word please.

I’m the exact opposite.
I don’t need the GPS at all because I always have that when I need it in my car, while I rarely find Wi-Fi where I am so I would much rather have 3G than GPS. Heh. Maybe I’ll wait until a really new upgrade next year.
I just found that O2 are offering a FREE upgrade for existing iPhone customers. Awesome! I can get the new one for free before it’s even out, all I have to do is sign for another 18 months (i’m only 6 months into my current one so it’s just like adding another 6 months onto mine). Don’t even have to finish my current contract.
Yay!
For those of you wanting to get a new iPhone 3G and hack it now it seems Apple and AT&T are going to force you to activate the phone when purchased and have a credit check in order to purchase an iPhone so this means you just cant go and purchase one at the apple store and unlock it, well you can but you will have to pay cancellation fees and other what not I will post more as I find out
Buy three and give me one…
I’m selling my ipod touch to get one of these guys, or i may just keep it, the new iphone is so cheap…
Yeah the new one is cheap, the iPhone has got alot cheaper since I bought mine.
When I got mine on the day it was launched, I had to pay £289 plus £35 per month for the contract. Now it’s free for £45 and £75 per month contracts, and only £99 on the £30 and £35 contracts.
They’re obviously trying to draw in more people, now they can say “Not all Apple products are really expensive, etc.” Leave it up to them to come up with great ways to sell their products.
 Yeah. I don’t buy Apple products that often because both they’re so expensive and because they go out of date so quickly. And the iPhone is a perfect example of this.
