Alpha fading textfields

I for one get the picture that textfields can be alpha-faded from this article…

http://www.macromedia.com/support/flash/ts/documents/textfield_var_name.htm

…but have not managed to do so. Am I doing something wrong or did I just get the wrong picture…

you can but it has to be a symbol.

But doesn’t that cause the contents to be not-dynamic?
If not could someone post an example .fla or link to one, plz
So far I have only been able to make it work with static text.

Here’s what I’ve managed to scrape together. Not working like I want to… :\

Hey Everyone Im new to the forum, you could try to just but a fading mc(a white box that fades from 0-100 alpha) over the text box it will look just as the text feilds have alpha faded in…

If that made no sense just ignore what I said. =) Good luck!

Here is an fla to understand what Im saying… I added it to the attatchment thing I dont know if that will work… hook me up on AIM if it doesnt - twentyinchbikes

Later.

Yup. That’s the way I’ve been doing it so far. But I saw this done somewhere, without the box. And anyway, using the box limits a bit, because the box will show up unless the background is the same color as the box, which eliminates multicolored backgrounds…

Ha-ha! I was victorious once again…

I found the answer on another forum. The trick is to embed the font, then it will fade out, and in, and out, and in… :))
