Animating static images?

Many sites have static images with flickering lights.

I try to use a mask to achieve this effect, but for some reason it just does not look good. Any tutorials on this?

I have a demo to submit tomorrow morning and i’m going mental

Are you saying you want a published flash file or an animated gif?

I have a picture of a building, and i want to have lights flickering on it.

Why not just add a layer above the image and insert the lights flickering animation.

Yes thats what i mean.

I need to have lights following a twisting path, which is difficult to do. The masking is easy.

But actually getting the lights in the first place is hard, especially when they have to be very thin

Select the line tool and use the hairline thickness to make the micro lines of light to follow the path. Add keyframes on turning points and rotate the light to curve with turns in the image.

This is something I made a long while ago:
[swf=http://www.macromotive.com/ebay/dalu/pub_battle.swf width=550 height=400][/swf]

wicked

you did every tiny bit of that with just animations even the little ones that follow using actionscript? + alpha

Everything in that image was animated, no scripting.

Yes thaty is similar to what i created before.

But i have seen ones, where the light “glows”, is that some gradient fill or what?

because i cannot get the line at point 0.25 to do anything.

How could you make it glow?

Like this:
[swf=http://www.macromotive.com/ebay/dalu/truck_alpha.swf width=600 height=405][/swf]

http://www.macromotive.com/ebay/dalu/truck_alpha.fla

looks like a linear gradient fill to me :thumb:

Thanks.

If the frame rate on that was higher, it would look pretty cool :bandit:

I just pulled a quickie on it. :wink:
