Another website attempt

i am determined to create my first website this summer vacation. i am aiming for a minimal design but as always, i am not satisfied with it… any suggestions would be cool. :book:
i’m gonna be making this in flash…

Hey dude, just keep working at it. Designing a site is either something that happens in 1 hour or 3 months. It really depends on what inspires you and how. Regardless of the appearance, you’re almost always guaranteed good results when you start with a good process. Map out your ideas and find the concept you’re looking for that feels right. Once you’ve got a concept, for example “coffee table”, then start listing out the functions you want to include. Take that list of functions, after careful thought, and consider how they can be executed through your concept. So, for example, if “coffee table” is your concept, you would consider what appears on a coffee table and how to visualize it and add functionality. Such as clicking the coffee mug makes a piece of paper slide out with thumbnails of your work and a coffee stain. Clicking a spoon makes it spin to reveal your name. You get the idea. I think you’ve got the skills to execute a fine piece of work, but I think it’s missing that spice that makes it a personal piece of work. Keep trying!

I actually liked the minimalist design more. Specifically the second design. Except the black border was too bold, and the type needed to be indented and have the whitespace tweaked a tiny bit for readability. Also the contact box felt completely out of style. Also, I felt the minimalist design could have been done with pure html and css, with some javascript and divs for transitions.

nice start with the fade but needs more work

the pictures are too far from the copy and the glow seem unnecessary

I really like the transitions you have going now… Like the picture’s being thrown onto the stage - at least for a first attempt at a flash site, I think you’re doing well!

thanks for all the comments.
btw, this didn’t take 3 months… lol. i stopped working on it, then got back a few weeks ago…
this is both an experiment with as3, and my first site.
i’m thinking of just working on the background right now, the main interface is pretty much done. i’ll fix what wes said. what do you mean by the fade btw?
:book:

oh I meant the fade in which happens at the beginning… but not that I think about it is okay

Kill the glows on the text, maybe add them for a mouse over.

The liquid GUI is sorta funky; the content moves away from the navigation when the browser is enlarged.
I understand the reasoning behind this, but in practice it just makes the site less pleasant to use on large displays.
Grouping the nav and content areas so they stay together would make more sense.

Nice Flash page transitions.
I like the styling of the blog site a lot better than this Flash site, though.

oh, the fading of the background was just to test how easy it would be to insert a function right after the image loads… i should change that.
i’ll fix the text.
and the blog, heh, just found that theme somewhere… there should be a link at the bottom. :stuck_out_tongue:

the gorrillazs guy is going to get you!!! :stuck_out_tongue:

heh, gorillaz guy, lol. love the style, couldn’t resist making my own
ok, did a little update. school is back, and I’m having trouble squeezing some time into this…
thanks for all the comments…
removed the glow in the text, as suggested
fixed the content distance (it now moves behind the menu, i tried to avoid that in the first try, but turns out it isn’t very obtrusive)
i’m pretty much happy with how it works now, i just need to fix the background… i’ll think of something, but i’d love some suggestions.

same link, be sure to clear your cache to see the changes

i’m having problems with my site… any help is greatly appreciated…
