Anybody going to school to learn flash?

I was just wondering who was doing this? What kinds of degree’s can you get that involve flash? What kind of training programs are there?

I am 100% self-taught, i’m trying to decide if I want continue on this way, or go to school. Does it add credibility?

Hey,
I was actually thinking about going to New York University for a college to take Advanced AS or PS. But I decided that Flash just wasn’t my thing, and I already knew PS well. So I decided to do Maya Gaming or Linux Admin classes.

When you take these classes, you do get a degree. I was talking about it with a guidance counselour and he said that nowadays, you can actually get a full degree for Flash animation/AS.

So if you were to pursue a career in Flash, with a corporation, then consider it. But like most people I know, they just become freelancer’s…

Hope that helps!

Yes it does. I didn’t know you could actually get a full degree in flash animation / AS.

That is great.

I’m going to have to look into that.

Yeah,
I was a little in doubt myself too

Good Luck man

a degree in flash animation that is crazy, I better start making better animations :ne:

Hehe,
yeah gh0st, I was talking about that university in NY remember a while ago?

Well, if we went there… That would be sweet

This is jsut my personal opinion, but they aren’t teaching the really great flash stuff in Schools. I’ve worked for two web companies and neither cared if you had a degree or not. It’s about having skill and sadly the teacher teaching flash are reading the same “how-to” books you are.

I was just at the Art Institute and found out my drawing teacher was the Flash Instructor. Anyway I showed him my old site and he was like “Wow, that;s better than most of our seniors…” It was sad to say the least.

If you want to design sites, just learn it on your own and go apply for job.

Whoa,
that is really wierd. I mean, heck, you would expect these people to know what they are doing, but darn!

I had no idea that even if you don’t have a degree or not, they would let you in…
Hrmm, gives me stuff to think about.

If you were to join somekind of coporation, I was thinking, who would you join?
I mean, what companies hire a Flash AS/Animator for thier company?

from my opinion, if u wanna learn flash u better off learning it on ur own!
in some cases colleges can be a waste money.

and if u worried about jobs, as long as the clients is impressed by ur portfolio, they don’t care if u went to school or not. getting hired for a studio or the like isn’t gonna be as easy, some studios require atleast an associate degree, but sometimes u can get around it!

go to college(i’m not telling u not to)

Thats how more jobs should be, if your good at it then your hired :sigh:

Ok, so flash school is not such a good idea.

What about training programs and certifications? Anybody have any experience with these? Are they credible? Expensive? How long do they last?

some info there…the tests alone are about $150 and I’m sure the training costs a lot more than that…not really worth it in my opinion.
