Hi.
I just wanted to know if any of you had tried using Moray and PoV-ray to create 3D stuff.
PoV-ray is a free raytracer (available here http://www.povray.org/ ).
Moray is a 80 euro shareware modeler designed to work together with PoV-ray (http://www.stmuc.com/moray/ ).
They work pretty well together I think. I managed to churn out this pretty quickly.
Both programs are primarily Windows oriented, although PoV-ray has been ported to many platforms.
A cheap alternative to the more expensive 3D programs out there.

Tried them ages ago back at uni. Unless they’ve developed they are great if you know the math. I think Pov-ray was just developed to interface for all those who struggled with numbers greater than 9. Seemed ok at the time with the obvious exception that rendering to a week with the dark age of pentium 120’s

Yeah, those were the days…
I can faintly remembering laying out a scene on paper and then typing all the numbers into a text-file that you then fed through PoV.
They seem to have done some improvements. I don’t think there were area light sources when I tried it last.
If you look at PoV’s homepage, there are some truly amazing pictures showcased there. So some people are getting good stuff out of it.

That’s amazing. I wonder who is modeling all those cars.
Some of the cars even look dirty: The little white Golf / Rabbit in the lower left corner…
