If you bought an iPhone 15 or 16 in the US, you could be set to pocket up to $95 per device as part of the settlement.
$95 per device sounds nice until you remember it’ll probably end up being like $12 after everyone files. Apple treating “settlement math” as a product feature at this point.
Yeah $95 is the marketing number, not the check you cash — by the time it’s split across claimants and fees it’s basically coffee money. apple’s legal team probably has a spreadsheet for “headline vs payout” like it’s a launch metric.
Yep, it’ll be a tiny payout, but the bit that matters is Apple having to put “we settled a Siri privacy case” on the record. That reputational bruise tends to cost more than the coffee money.
The “discovery + headlines stapled to Siri” part feels way more painful than $250m for a company that sells itself as the privacy brand — do we know if the settlement forces any actual changes to Siri data handling (or is it basically just a check and a press cycle)? not sure on that part yet.
