Bay Area Colleges

I graduated from the Art Institute of Philadelphia in 2001 with “Best overall portfolio” and have had a great job (47,000$) here in Philly for the past 3 years doing a wide range of Professional Multimedia work (Video graphics, CD-ROMS, Websites, etc.) Recently my girlfriend and I have been anxious to experience a new city and recently decided that we will be moving to San Francisco, CA in 2006 (We’ve been there 3 times and love it)

At first I was going to start applying for some jobs, but I came to the conclusion that I wanted to go back to school to learn more. I want to attend a four year University that isn’t an art based school, but more of a “Standard” University with a computer science type degree. (Maybe the equivilant of UPENN here in Philadelphia).

So, I guess my questions are (To those of you familiar with San Francisco Colleges):

-What schools are top rated for there Computer Programs?
-What schools are willing to accept students who have already been to school?
-I would live off campus, which section of the city would you suggest I live in? ( If you are familiar with Philadelphia, something that was similiar to Queen’s Village/ Center City/ or University City)
-Any other advice/experience/tips

Thanks so much!

hey suburb…

welcome to bay area  [soon]

anyway I live in Fremont, kind of a suburb city, an hour from SFO.
unfortunatley i go to an art school… it’s pretty famous actually… you prolly know by now, it’s academy of art univerisity.
if you wanna find something equivalent with upenn in terms of the quality, i think it’s tough… but i heard Santa Clara University is a good one. San Jose State is not really that good but i heard if you graduate the chance of getting a job in IT industry is pretty big, because the school has a good networking… but indeed Santa Clara is what I recommend, beside berkeley.
the only minus thing is that… its kinda far from SF… and the public transportation here in bay area [outside SF] is totally sucks! you can rely on public transportation in SF, however n east bay you gotta have a car.

If you really want to stay within the city of SF, you may want to consider community college - then transfer to one of the Univ. of California schools (Berkeley for example) after becomming familiar with them and the area …
