Hi pr’, finally got to test this above yesterday.
As soon as I reinstall the 80gb drive, comp’ won’t boot and no drive recognized! (just wanted to test…)
So boot to XP cd, r into recovery console, type “map”: the drive isn’t even listed, just C with Windows, floppy, and both cd-roms (dvd)!?
Try fixboot, it asks me if I really want to do that on drive C, so I say no of course…
No access to the other drive with all my data!!
Any other ideas…?
Just a wild shot, did you set the Master/Slave right?
Yup, double checked, C is Master (and I am servant… Depeche Mode) and I tried both cable select and slave on D, nada…
Thx for the input tho’
Guess the drive is just f**ed, pb is, my other comp’ is still on Win98 (for the kids…), so won’t be able to handle a 80gb drive, and also not read NTFS…
fixboot shouldnt do anything bad to your drive - sometimes it will fix it enough to at least get it recognizeable to retrieve your data
It might… if the drive was listed at least, but i think it’s really dead, with those clicking noises etc…
