I would like to make a custom scrollbar for a site I am working on but just can’t find a tutorial that will show me what to do. I tried using the one that flash comes with in the components section but it does not fit with the site at all. I am including a pic which will show you exactly what I refer to.
I would be most delighted if you could help in any way. I know it must be possible because I have seen custom scrollers on various sites.
there is a way i know that is connected to a lot of effort, but in the end you can customize your scrollbar 100%.
all you have to do is insert your flash component scrollbar anywhere in the document, open the library, go to “Flash UI components/component skins/FScrollbar Skins” and modify the mcs as you like.
Thanks for that. But I’m not sure what to do. I opened the folder and saw what you showed me in your screen shot. If i want the box that contains the up arrow to be a circle for example, what do I do? delete the original square box and replace it with a circle? Also there seems to be lots of versions of the same graphic in the folders, which one do I change?
Won’t changing things this way replace the component permanently?
i’d change some little things, still.
first of all, the bar that follows the mouse in the menu, why is that square? because nearly all the other elements are round on your site.
secondly, the scrollbar looks a lot better than the standard flash mx one, BUT ( ) also there i would change the edges of the bar itself to make it round as well, like in your image in the first post.
third, the text is integrated pretty nicely on the rest of the site, so why do you use banners on the links-page? the surfer (e.g. me) doesn’t know what is expecting him when clicking the banners, whether it is your label or friends, or whoever that stands behinds the sites, so nobody will click the links. that can be changed by describing the pages, e.g. put a textlink as a headline in your link-color, and describe it in black type underneath, and do that for alle the links.
one last detail: in my opinion the clickable area for the buttons is too small, so an increase of the vertical clickable area of the buttons would make the whole navigation more fluent.
ah, i forgot one thing: there is no connection between the flsh movie and the striped bg. and why don’t you continue the color gradient to the top and to the bottom, e.g. with a html table whose bg is exactly like the flash movie.
that pretty much it, apart from that i like your site
if you like to hear criticism for the site by more people, post it in the “site check” area of the forum. usually you get a lot of feedback there.
Thanks for the comments. The banner pictures have to stay because the parties that supplied them have paid for the pics to be on the spree html page which can be found at http://www.spree.us
They have asked me to do the same with this flash version. I could put some text explanation over the top of each banner - good idea. I am now going to make the changes you suggested. Thanks.
