Can anyone help in Masking

i need a help to do some masking in my FM.
i wrote the text -that i want to mask-.
i then draw a rectangle in a new layer, and select mask.
but it did not work.:skull: :skull:

Try converting your text to DYNAMIC in your properties menu and then under the CHARACTER settings in the properties menu EMBED FONT OUTLINES FOR ALL CHARACTERS. Why does this need to be done in order to mask text? I don’t know! It’s a stupid thing, but…I found out how to do this by browsing the flash newsgroup in deja.com (which links to google newsgroups), but if anyone knows a better way, please let me know.

Oh yea I forgot, if you are wondering where EMBED FONT OUTLINES FOR ALL CHARACTERS is, it’s in the FORMAT button in the PROPERTIES menu…

is this what youre talking about?

  1. make 2 layers. layer 1 add the text.
  2. layer 2, make a rectangle covering a part of the text.
  3. on layer 2, click on Modify>Layer>Mask
  4. then click on layer 1 and click Modify>Layer>Masked
  5. hit both the lock symbols and youll be able to see the mask.

i’ve added a motion tween for the shape. you can check out the fla.

remember that both layers have to be locked to be able to preview the animation in your timeline ,

and the mask is what you will see. so the text should go into the mask, and then whatever you want to cover it or animate over it with be in the second layer.

u talking about the type that scrolls up in the movie or the logo where the circle has that glow?

yes i need to know how the mask effect on the scrolling text was created. <:}
