I was put in a situation where my morals and character were challenged.
…I was dropping a friend off at her house (she lives in not so great an area) and a house accross the street from where I parked had it’s gates open and the “guard dogs” a boxer and a pitbull were cruising around the street. I wasn’t so worried about the boxer, but the pitbull I knew could do some damage if it chose to. Well the boxer just came cruising over to my car and was standing outside my window… then it would run out across the road which was 3 lanes on either side with cars going around 40-50.
This dog was either going to Die and smash up a car, or the car might swerve and crash… maybe into my car. This dog had no collar on so in order to pull it out of the road, 1.) I really needed to manhadle it. 2.) If I grabbed this one I was pretty sure the pitbull was coming across the street.
As I was debating this a car had to slam its brakes and screech to a stop to not hit the dog. My stomcah got all turned up as I thought this dog was going to get hit right in front of me. Do I risk getting attacked to save the dog???
…Anyway, I ended up just calling the police. I didn’t know what else I should have done. I think a part of me wishes I had the balls to just grab that dog and go knock on the door of the house, even though that meant holding down to “guard dogs.”
What would you have done in that situation?
Do you think it is those gut check moments that really define our characters?
