Controlling a movieclips movement

What I would like to do is have four buttons on the left hand side that when clicked would in turn move a masked movieclip on the right up and down. Since the movieclip that will be moving is one long bitmap it would need to stop and certain places dictated by the button pushed. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance…
