Corrupt folders?

Hey guys, its been a while since I posted, but I recently bought a notebook with Vista on it and I love it.
My problem now though, is that I created a folder way back when I started messing with the computer, and I threw a whole bunch of files In there that I wasn’t sure if I would need or not. (Nothing like system files, just some stuff from my external) The files were just a couple of psds and such.
As of recently though, when I tried to access that folder again, Vista says that it is corrupt/unaccessible. I don’t need to recover the files inside or anything, but now I can neither access nor delete the folder and it is kind of frustrating. I tried running chkdsk on the C: drive, and while it says it is in use and will do so on reboot, it fails to even check it.
I’m not sure what to do at this point and would rather just delete the folder altogether than get the files inside.
Hope you can help, thanks
