Creating a Text scroller problem

I have a problem. I’ve done the tut. here http://www.kirupa.com/developer/mx/textscroller.htm
And It works fine, the problem is when I put a mask over it the text disappears. anyone know why this is happening and how do I fix it?

embed the text…

then it wont be in the text feild and wont be able to scroll destroying the whole purpose.

I guess you misunderstood the meaning of “embed the text”. You’re not supposed to break it apart.

I thought breaking it apart was embedding it? How do I embed it then?

Select the textfield and look to the properties panel and you’ll find out.
I don’t have mx2004 here so can’t help.
