I’ve been getting myself excited about Linux today (getting OpenSuSe this time), and then realized my school might be interested.
I saw some instructions on the OpenSuSe wiki on how to build a custom DVD (and how to make CDs from a DVD) with certain software and such… from there, I went to the DeepFreeze site. My school has DeepFreeze Win Enterprise, so, according to this calculator, we’ve payed $20,851.55, and will do it again every time we upgrade.
For a school without much excess money, that is really tough, I imagine. If I could find something similar for Linux, which is likely, I might be able to get them to try it in a few rooms.
I think if I don’t propose them switching the entire school, but just a few computers to test it out, they might be very interested. I might also suggest dual-booting on the experimental machines.
