Did you know that the great French philosophes had different ideas about government? Some, such as Thomas Hobbes thought that humans were born evil, and needed a ruler, no matter how cruel, to keep order. Others such as John Locke thought that how a person’s experiences were were factors of how they existed. He believed in Self-Government, which is what I think, because why must a being be told what to do by another person? Anyways, down to the point. There’s another one named [edit right here when I look through my history notes tomorrow] who believed that democracy was the worst thing that could be done to a human, for people are stupid and will end up just killing themselves?
roads
schools
a police force
social security
laws
and a billion more benefits.
You’re right, people will kill themselves, but if there are no punishments, people can go around killing whoever they want without repercussions. Goverments are then created to attempt to stop people from killing each other and to punish those who do.
Phil, if democracy is soooooo bad, name 1 better government. And please don’t say communism, it can’t work.
Just because something isn’t ideal, doesn’t mean its not the best possible solution for the time. No one likes people dying, but we can’t stop it. You may not like democracy, but there isn’t a better government. (bad analogy but couldn’t think of a better one).
Humans are born by nature to be free. Don’t type just sit there and think about it for a few seconds deeply. Were we really born to be ruled? How come humans have to be governed? Why can’t we be free?
Plus, it’s not fair because I wouldn’t kill anyone even if I did have the power! Morals

Be governed and be ruled are 2 totally different things. At least in my country. Reread NaliWarCowZ’s post and think about it for a while.

this is true, there is a better system of governing but it just hasn’t been discovered yet so we “have” to stick with this one for now. This system is by no means perfect or even close to perfect, we have so many problems in our own countries(homeless, racism, crime) , someone once said “when it rains it pours, they got money for wars but cant feed the poor”
society is a mess so don’t blame me blame society.
Phil, I never said the U.S. government was the best. I said democracy was. I really hate the way we’re kinda forced to vote for these guys, then for 4 or 6 years they’re allowed to just do whatever the heck they want, as long as they’re not impeached. They can vote for something that EVERY non-congressman in the country hates and there’s not a thing we can do except not elect them again in 6 years.
If “we the people” (not “we the corrupt politicians”) voted on all issues, and congressmen only put them up for votes and the president only enforced them, I believe the government would be better. It would be hard to do, but we could find a way to make it work. Democracy #1, Republic #2, WarCowocracy #3.
How would we be in worse shape if we were in a democracy?
First, if it required a 3/4 vote to amend the constitution, I doubt it would ever happend that 75% of the country would vote to make being black a crime. If it did happen though, there might be something wrong at the time. Say every black person in America started to kill every other non-black person. I think that would warrant the police / national guard to put all black people in jail until it was sorted out.
Maybe we would only vote once a month and only on large issues that required $XXXX or XXXX amount of people. Or we could become a confederation where the national gov’t had a lot of power to force us to go to war, but the smaller states/counties/cities could govern themselves almost. I’m not the God of Governments and don’t know how to solve all the problems, but I believe that democracies could work on the nat’l level.
I know that there were slaves, but I mean NOW i doubt it would ever happen. People used to eat one another in some places (prob. a bunch of our ancestors). Does that mean that 3/4 the country will vote to have a law passed allowing people to eat one another? People learned whats right and wrong and fixed it, and I doubt there will ever be slaves again.
aren’t we slaves to the 2% elite rich who control everything? or am i just paranoid? and how about the kirupa secret council? can you shed some light on what type of tyranny…er governing goes on in there?! :bad:
