Lately I have been on the job search hunt. I’m getting burned out on freelancing which is what I have been doing the past 5 years. I long for a structured work environment.
The past month I have been on 3 interviews. One company offered me a position which was absolutely ideal for what I was looking for. The deal killer was the commute though. After doing some number crunching, gas, time lost driving, I would be making barely more than I am now freelancing, so I declined the position last Friday.
Today however, I get an email with a second offer. Same salary with full benies, but I would only come into the office once every 2-3 weeks for meetings, brainstorming and so on, but I would do all my work from home.
My dilemma is that I actually want a work environment. I’m not sure I can take sitting in my home for 7-8 hours a day, for 5 days a week. :-/ Doing freelancing I can always leave for a bit if I feel couped up. Knowing that I HAVE to be home for work may drive me bonkers. They would expect me to sign on to IM or some kind of chat to verify that I am actually here working. Any of you guys have any experience in this type of situation?
