I’m looking to kick some opinions back and forth with other advanced flashers about the Forms Application (as in the Screens-based document in mx2004 pro)
When I first got mx2004, I kind of took on the FormApp as my ‘default’, using it to author movies and using it as the “BASE” that loads all my assets and sounds, and .swf’s etc…it seemed at first like it was a perfect solution:
you could just set some hidden Form to load site assets while the user was doing something else in the site.
But after much testing (which I do way too much), I found a number of quirks with Forms, two of them are:
1-you can’t put your classes on frame 2 in a FormApp because you get an error: “frame 2 does not exist”…umm…
2-if you load an .swf into a Form, it’s pretty much going to appear on Stage in a location which is beyond your control (laughs, and then cries)…
well those are just two off the top of my head. there are MANY other happenings when using FormApps that have made me walk outside and look at the sky for like three days.
I’d greatly appreciate some opinions from advanced users, namely: when you begin designing a flash project, do you reach for the FormsApp or not?
I love using my own preloaders, scripted, and using my own loading methods, rather than the MovieClipLoader thing.
talk to me
