Hey people, I’m missing out on a game of GR with dippy cause of some sort of DNS server mishap.
My xbox can’t connect because of some DNS thingy, it says it wasn’t assigned or something.
I wanna know how I can detect it and write it down so I can manually tell my xbox what it is… if that’s possible.
as lost said, dns basically resolves a friendly url which acts as a ‘cover’ on the hosts ip address… if you like have a server address, try going into the dos promt, type in ‘ping www.domain.com’… this should return the ip of that domain name, write it down and try using it instead of what you already have…
im not sure if that’s what you really are asking for though
Go to a working PC and go to a dos window and type… “ipconfig /all” Look for the line that says “DNS Servers” That is the information you are looking for. As for how to input that into a xbox I have no idea. I am assuming you are on a broadband network, or you are using the same ISP with the PC as you are with the xbox. If you are getting the xbox’s IP via DHCP it should get the DNS servers the same way. Sorry I am not familer with how the network adapter works for a xbox.
Thanks everyone, but it turns out that it must have been a problem with Xbox Live last night.
I haven’t checked it today, but last night Dippy and I were getting the same error, so it was almost certainly serverside (bein’s we’re in different countries and all…).
