Linking XBOX to Laptap via Ethernet

Hi, sorry about the typo in the header.

Today I have been trying to hook up my laptop to my XBOX in order to play online, connecting the two by ethernet cable to have the laptop act as a wireless adapter - instead of forking out 100 bucks for the Microsoft brand adapter.

I know this works, but I keep running into certain problems. I have tried to reassign a different IP to the networks (wireless and LAN) but I can never get the LAN connection to connect. I have tried bridging the connections, but this only seems to bridge the wireless connection, with the same ‘a network cable is unplugged’ message. I think if I can get the LAN to work, I’ll have much more success.

Does anyone know of a way to fix this, through a means I haven’t explained or by giving help as to how I should assign IP’s to each network?

Thank you so much to anyone who can help.
