Do AI tools flatten the workflow too much?

I keep noticing that some AI features save time by skipping the small steps where I’d normally notice something was off. That feels great right up until I realize I no longer know what changed or why the output looks the way it does.

Has anyone found a point where the convenience is worth it, but the workflow still stays legible enough to trust?

That “skipping the small steps” part is exactly why I only trust AI when the output is naturally diffable: code changes in a PR, a rewritten paragraph with track changes—anything where I can see the delta.
