I thought about putting this in the client and/or server area, but I really wasn’t sure. I’m new to all of this. Sorry if this is wrong.
I’ve built a website using Microsoft Office Live Small Business (MOLSB) for my office. We currently have our own domain (nwparks.org) registered with Lowest Domain Rates (lowestdomainrates.com). On this domain we have a website that was created using Front Page 93 that was so dysfunctional, my office chose to completely abandon it. My boss wants to keep the domain name and use it with the new website that I’ve created using the MOLSB program. I can’t for the life of me figure out how to do it the way she wants. She does not want it to be a URL forward or a redirection (as I understand, it would mean typing in the nwparks.org, and then get redirected to nwpf.parks.officelive.com). She wants the actual webpage to read nwparks.org, not nwpf.parks.officelive.com like it currently does now. Is there any way for me to transfer the domain to the Microsoft Office Live Small Business website?
I’ve been going through Lowest Domain Rates’s FAQs and I’ve found some information regarding a DNS change that says I need the primary and secondary DNS information from my host, which I’m assuming would be MOLSB.
This is the process the website describes: “After you log in, you will see links to the actions you can perform. Click the ‘Change DNS Info’ link. You will be able to see the current nameserver info listed. Select the domain(s) whose hosting you wish to alter, and click the “Continue” button.
On the next screen, you will be able to enter the hosting information your host has given to you. Replace the current servers with the new server info (you may omit the IP addresses, as they are optional), and click the “Continue” button. Your new DNS information will be automatically entered, if it is verified to be valid.”
Is this a valid way to apply the nwparks.org name to the MOLSB website I’ve created? If so, how might I go about finding the primary and secondary hostnames and IP addresses so that I can enter them into Lowest Domain Rates’s website?
I’ve also read about “redirecting” the domain, but I am not clear as to whether or not the website will actually read www.nwparks.org after I’m done with the redirecting process. Plus my office would be concerned with the effect it would have on email accounts.
My boss is really concerned about making sure all of the emails we already have at nwparks.org are intact.
Any suggestions/further information?
