… You have worked on a project (Flash, webdesign, Photoshop, whatever…) for over 40 hours, and your friend comes along and thinks that s/he could do a much better job then you?
This happened to me recently, normally I would not care all that much, but I have put over 40 hours of work into my project. 40 real hours, not sitting around learning the process and the software either, I am an expert at the software I am using. (As you may have guessed its not Flash. ) In any case he asks to see what I have done, I am about 50% finished so I show him the clips I have done. He watches it and says… “Thats ok, but I wish you would give me the source material, I could do the timing much better…” I was steamed at that point. I will be the first to say I am not perfect nor is the timing in the video perfect, but its darn close… The thing that really gets to me is that he has never done a video at all, and here he is telling me how much better he could do then me… With my source material no less. He did start a video once, from a project I never finished. He took the source material and said he would start over and make a better one… Well that was six months ago, and besides it was still my source, and idea for the vid. Bah, whatever…
Sorry for the vent, but this really ticked me off. Back to the regular happy Niann now.

**lol he sounds like my friend joe, a 25 year old idiot with no job and lives at home, but he can do anything… he’s superjoe **
I have a few of those… care to take a guess at how I remedy the situation?
I don’t have that kind of ppl here! Because a few of the ppl I know have computers @ home and the ones who have don’t know anything about programming or computer art(except for me best friend who knows some PS art) so they can’t really do a better job than me!

Oh I dont know, standing 6 to 7 feet behind them, get a running start and let out a “hhhhyyyyyyyaaaahhhhh!” while kicking them in the back of the cranium.
whenever I give someone my code, first off, i never let them touch my computer, i’d usually give them a copy to work on another/their computer; but anyway, I make at least one copy of the file in some remote location on my HDD. Usually, i never let them touch the original.
I also do this when i edit other people’s stuff, i make copies so i don’t screw it up totally.
but to play it safe next time, i’d take SureShot’s advice.
I feel your pain, Niann… My boss told me the same thing recently. He wanted to have a little intro done for his site, and he thought about hiring the same designer who did the current site (some guy who probably works for 2advanced, check this out people, it’s really amazing: www.yxene.com ).
Anyway, I tell him I’m not a designer but that I know Flash a bit and that I could probably do better than what’s there already. I showed him some of my stuff, and he more or less explained me he thought even he could do better :-\
The worse part of being a programmer and not a designer is that you know you suck and you just can’t help it! I have no idea how to improve my skills… (my only ray of light was the trendwhore tute from sintax. I want to be a trenwhore!!)
