So I’ve been working at this company for a year and a half now working as their graphic artist/flash developer/video editor(when needed) and anything else. They started me off at $12/hr and I am still making $12/hr a year and a half later. I have been working part-time 30hrs/week since I started.
I am 21 and still a student at the art institute. I graduate in December.
So we hired a new sales associate that I know personally. They were in a meeting talking about an upcoming graphics project for a banner. They decided to outsource the work and my friend, the new sales associate, asked why we weren’t having Ronnie (myself) do it. Apparently the owner of the company said “well ronnie isn’t really creative. He just pushes buttons.”
That kind of pissed me off since the stuff they give me to do has to adhere to strict design guidelines. They have never given me an opportunity to design the way I would and when I have they say its too much or the client wont like that so do it this way. I guess he has also claimed that I surf the web a lot when in fact I am on 3 message boards all day…Kirupa, gotoAndLearn and actionscript.org trying to solve issues that I still dont know about in flash. I started flash the day they hired me so I am no AS guru.
I do know for a fact that I do NOT just push buttons. I have done some nice work in my opinion. Please tell me he is wrong or are these examples of button pushing?

I was forced to teach myself PHP and MySQL knowing nothing about it to help one of our clients create a login and register system. Even though that isnt really design, I spent hours and hours reading tutorials/books to figure this stuff out. I am happy I was forced to learn that because it just allows me to add more arsenal to my resume.
sorry for me rambling on. I am just a little upset at how the owner of this company see’s me.
