select the star or the poly tool, then left mouse click and drag to drag out the shape, make sure you keep left mouse down, then hit up and down on the keyboard to add or subtract number of edges, hitting down a few times will produce a 3 sided shape formally known as prince… uhh umm i mean triangle.
Why not create the triangle in PS and just import it into Illustrator?
^your joking right?
Wouldn’t make sense to create it in photoshop when he wanted to do it in Illustrator and i explained how to do it in Illustrator.
another option (depending on the shape of triangle you want) is to make a square, then use the subtract points tool (shortcut is the minus key) and just remove a side… this gives you right angled triangles.
You read it wrong soulty. It was not a suggestion, it was a question.
I wanted to know if he is trying to learn Illustrator or just trying to get through a project with maybe a time limit on it.
Perhaps I should of been a little more verbose.
I still really can’t see the logic in your question. Why would you ask that after I provided a way to create the triangle in illustrator?
Wouldn’t it make more sense to add another solution like Pie did instead of telling the requester to create their task in a more difficult way?
Not trying to be a knob, just would not expect a response like that from you.
Well,
I am probably older than you and the best way for me to learn is to ask questions. (I started working with computers at the age of 38 :-/ )
And again, I was not TELLING him to do anything. I was asking a question.
Besides, why would I post another solution when you posted a great solution in the previous post.
I doubt there is a better solution than the one you posted.
Hmm, I guess since I am closing in on the 1/2 century mark I am a little out of touch with most of you guys. So if I post something that seems a little ridiculous cut me a little slack and give me the benefit of the doubt. Please.
We are all knobs at one time or another, if not now you will be sometime in your life. :thumb2:
ah nah man, my bad. I thought you had some experience in the field. I just remembered you had answered a questions in other threads and thought you were in know so to speak. It’s all good I just read you wrong. No harm in asking questions no matter what age you are, we are all here to learn and we are all here to help each other.
put hand up, taps chest “my bad, my bad” no harm no foul.
It is good.
I have taken one year of PS in college, but I have not taken Illustrator.
So I have just enough knowledge to be dangerous. :geek:

Another solution: Rather that drag out a shape and use the up and down arrows as .soulty suggested, just select the polygon tool and click once on your work area - then you can simply choose how many sides you want your shape to have. In this case: 3.
.soulty’s solution obviously works as well, and actually offers you more visual control, but the “one click” solution is also effective.
