Dvd drive isn't reading

ok, here’s my problem:

after I burned a movie, the DVD drive doesn’t seem to read any discs I put in, including DVD movies (original) and music CDs. As soon as I put the disc in, I see the light flash twice and then it stops. It doesn’t look like the DVD drive is even trying to read it. I thought it was just a temporary problem, I’'ve turned the computer off and turned it on a few hours later, but still nothing…can someone help me?

I have no idea feit. Does your Windows Device Manager still recognize the drive as a DVD drive?

Upgrade drivers and firmware if possible.

The computer recognizes it as a CD-ROM drive, I tried adding a device and it said the F drive (DVD drive) is working fine.

I upgraded the firmware to the latest available, but the LG site doesn’t have any driver updates…oh and if by any chance anyone else has this model, its a LG GSA 4081B DVD Rewriter.

Ok, goto Device Manager and uninstall the drive, shut down, remove the cables connecting it, boot up, make sure all traces of it are gone (registry, device manager…), shut down, replug things in, then Windows’ll detect it and see if it works.

Yeah that should fix it becuase it’ll be like installing for the first time. :pleased:

Just tried it, spent nearly 2 hours trying to get the proper wires connected and in the end, still the same problem :a: … I’m starting to think its a internal problem with the DVD drive, which really sucks cause this thing is only 3 months old…booooo :frowning:

2 hours? You only should have 3, maximum of 5 wires going to your DVD drive.

The inside of my computer is a total mess, with IDE cables and other wires all over the place. There were 6 sets of wires grouped together going between my hard drive, cd drive and dvd drive, with some of the wire sets not going anywhere. After I unplugged it to uninstall the DVD drive, I forgot which goes where, so that should explain the 2 hours…I’m gonna call LG tomorrow, if they cant help me out, I’ll just sell it for parts or whoever wants to try to fix it…

Well, if you got another computer, try plugging it in there and see if it works or not.

I don’t know what exactly happened nor do I care how it happened, but after I updated the DVD drive’s firmware to one of the older versions, everything seemed to be fine. I’m just happy I can burn more DVDs again!
Just wanna say thanks to Maxtr0sity for all the help!
