hi - i want to incorporate some video into a flash presentation for a CD, but i’m getting confused somewhere, any tips would be hugely appreciated!
the video was initially a huge file (180 Mb), so colleague has compressed it in adobe Premiere and exported it as a WMV file which is now 23 Mb. when i imported this file into the library of my .fla (i’m using MX 2004) it seemed to take ages, so i looked at the ‘properties’, and the file size had increased to 60 Mb…
is that normal (!) or is there something i forgot to do? or, is there something incompatible between Premiere and Flash which affects the compression??
(nb is embedding the video actually the best way to go? the only reason i did it was because i was playing with a tutorial which loaded video into a flash-based ‘video player’…)
hmm, some progress today, but i still don’t get what was happening earlier with the files increasing in size…
i found various threads suggesting a free download called Riva flv encoder, which meant i was able to convert my 23 Mb file to a flv file, rather than relying on MX converting the (60 Mb) version from it’s library. using this smaller flv meant the final movie (swf incorporating the video footage) works out currently at about 16 Mb - a massive improvement on this morning!
Right click the video in your library and choose “Properties”
Click “Export” and export it as an “FLV” file.
Delete that original (probably huge) file from your library.
Open Flash’s “Components” menu and drag an instance of the “MediaPlayback” component onto the stage.
Fiddle with the MediaPlayback’s parameters through the “Component Inspector” window making sure you enter the filename of your FLV file you exported earlier.
Save and publish your Flash file in the same directory as your FLV file.
Open the HTML file and you should see the video.
This is definately the way to go as it means the video isn’t actually inside your Flash file so your SWF filesize will be next to nothing, all the video is contained in the accompanying FLV file!
No sweat mate. Yeah, there’s some nice features in pro and you’ll find it useful.
Good luck with your boss! Just tell him you have evidence of him having sex with his secretary of something and you’ll get all the software you want.
