Fancy Flash / html

Hey guys, i was just wondering if someone can help me create a really nice look on a html page.

This is what i mean, pls visit this link frist !!

http://www.cruciallimit.com/chapterOne/index.html

How would i go, by trying to do something like this, ive seen it in a few sites, and i think it gives it a real classy look!

I know its probably more of a html question, but just in case someone knows it here

:stuck_out_tongue:

nope, it’s pretty much a solid Flash question.

There’s a lot of stuff going on in that swf. I would charge about 4000 to 6000 dollars to produce that work. (and I haven’t even explored it beyond a couple clicks.) Extras could up that price.

I suggest starting by doing lots and lots of tutorials. You’ve probebly already heard that, and you’re eager to jump into doing something really cool, but I’ll tell you right now that if you ask the question ā€œHow can I do this type of look?ā€ then you’re not ready yet. You’ll learn how to do that kind of look and many of those effects by performing lots and lots of tutorials, and reading a couple books if you can. Soon just by doing that, you’ll end up developing your own effects that no one has ever tried… and then some other beginner will be looking at your work and asking me how they can do that.

books books books… nothing competes. If you can’t afford books, check out your local library. They have Flash books, or should if you live in anywhere other than the boonies. Check out the books that are suited to your level. Don’t go for anything too advanced before you’re ready or you’ll just be frustrated.

Sorry I can’t help you more than that Dave. Good luck.

after looking at the site a little more, I think that I understated the cost of that site. probebly closer to 10k plus.

I’ve actuall been there before… I think 6 months ago someone else was asking the same question you just did.

Agreed. Something like that would take a lot of time on the part of the developer / designer, and would cost a lot. I’m trying to work out what the $ would equate to in my British pounds and pence, but failing. I’d say it’s a couple of grand’s worth of work though. at least.

So as David suggested, the best thing to do is practice - there’s loads of tutorials on Kirupa.com from the masters themselves, that show you how to do all kinds on funky things.

Hey guys, thanks for your reply’s, i guess i didnt explain myself properly!!

I can do that site in flash no problems :stuck_out_tongue:

What i meant was the background. See how he has split up his html page, on the left he has grey, the middle orange, the right grey again, and they have a nice drop shadow at the top, and funky embossing on the coloumns going down!!

I think it has been done by using framesets!

But anyways, that was what i was wondering bout, not the actual flash stuff!! :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue:

Yes, it is done with framesets… 3 columns, then the use of graphics to get the cool shadows on the columns…

frames and tables… :-\

**** Dude - then you are ALOT better than me  It would take me weeks to put something like that together. What I am having trouble figuring out is how he makes those menus stretch and contorte like that - what a great site.

Thanks for the link!

whoa, are you serious? I’m considering pursuing web design but I haven’t the faintest idea of what clients charge for web sites. I didn’t realize the pay would be so high (I understand that this is an exceptionally well-designed site, though).

As David has said before, $50/hr is basic wage today… as far as web design is concerned…

If you feel you can’t justify that amount, then adjust. Just be careful. It is very hard to raise your rates as you get better. your clients will refer you to other potential clients based on your rate…

During the bubble I charged $100/hr because I could get it… Now I’m back to $50/hr…

Just my point of view…

Rev:elderly:

depends too. If you can get yourself in with a firm, then you’re wages go up to around 60 - 75 per hour. Of course different amounts of experience help. I’m just an uneducated freelancer.

I agree that if you can do that sort of Flash ā€œno problemā€ you’re better than I. That would take me a long time, and a lot of effort.

Once you have a frameset down, and you know what sizes you need, you can create a graphic in something like photoshop, and then either cut it yourself, or use a program like fireworks to do the slicing, but yeah… that’s all they are doing there. I think the toughest part of that process is coming up with a unique background that blends well.

ive got a question regarding to that site … id like to know how to frame those graphic … i mean like to make size that would perfectly fit or even stick out but scrolling would be not able.

if u gots some tutorial plz help, i need knowledge !!! ^^

thx

Hi! all,

This is probably a stupid question to ask, but u guys know that beginning part where the top and bottom slides to the middle? I know how it works but are there codes to do it simplier?

Thanks!

oozaru. I think you should take a look at the kirupa tutorials. Look for ones that detail window creation. Once you can build a window to your specs, the actuall Flash work isn’t too tough. I think it’s just a matter of setting ā€˜no scaling’ in the publish settings.

gunstarx ~ I’m not sure. maybe in MX. Not in Flash though… it’s just a mask with a couple of moving parts and posibly some enhancement effects. With that sort of thing, most of the work is spent fiddling with it until it looks right.

$50/hour?? are you kidding me!?! omg, never in my life would i have thought that much or more than that much! is that just strictly flash developers, or what?i feel like i’ve been making sites for pennies! lol

thanks 4 providing the link to such a good site dave!

sureshot this one if 4 u:

u asked about how one could enlarge and contortion an image.
it is actually quite simple. here goes:

1.draw an image.
2.select the arrow tool and click on the outside of the image.
3.place the arrow on the portion of the image u want to ditort
(and the image of the arrow must change to arrow and a curve).
4.drag it, to suit your distortion.
5.if you want to enlarge the distortion, select the image and
press the scale button(in flash5, it is on the left and bottom most button!).
6.play around till you get the image you want!

I did check out the site and got just the same effect of the enlarge and contortion effect achieved there.

HOPE THIS HELPED.(gosh, why am I signing off like Kirupa!)

Bye.
Susheel.J

Could you provide a source for the contortioning effect? I really appreciate it. I’m starting to understand that although the flash is an itegral part, the graphic design is what makes or breaks it… back to the PS tutorials…

Sory man, but thats not my site!!

But that effect would be done probably by shape tweening!!

=)

like dave said i think that the contortioning effect is done with shape tweening with a few shape hints to help the shape of the contortion.

I figured this out the other night actually! hahaha Take a look at the .fla below and you will see what I mean.

all it is is shape tween and using the ā€œenvelopeā€ option under modify when you have the broken apart shape selected.

nice , looks good.

pretty much the same as crucial limits.

lol
