How much should a client expect for say $1000?

Hi,
I am building a flashsite for this site http://www.idhair.dk. Its a competition and the winner gets the prize money.
Now my question is, since the only thing the site is to contain, is what you see on the old site, but in a new, professional, hip-youth-flash-way, how much of a site should they expect?

Should it contain lods of animated stuff to justify that amount or is webdevelopement that expensive that a simple flash website with simple transition animations is justifiable?

can’t upload my progress now, since its not on this HD.
I might EDIT this post later with an URL.

Thanks in advance
pxa

A highend flash site can easily cost $1000, even without 3d or advanced coding. If it looks top notch, clean and professional, it’s great.

With competitions all you really have to do is beat the guy who finishes second though

Good point Yeldarb, i am totally agree with you.

Get rid of the background and redo the interface extremely NEATLY!

You’re done. :thumb2:

Yeah $1000 easy.

My dad’s firm just got a new website ( http://www.lewissilkin.com ) which they paid tens of thousands of £ for (I would have done it myself just as well for a few hundered!).

Heres my dad:

:stuck_out_tongue:

IMHO its not realy good approach to make work as bad and as easy so the client would still take it because he is dumb or has no insight on pricing… try to pull the best out of yourselfs regardles if its well-payed or not… at least you will enrich your portfolio with another masterpiece

Sure, work your hardest, but for less time than if they were paying more

That site costed £ 20K+?

:h: omg, wth?
I think he’s talking about his car

Oh, and yeah… $1000 gets you a really simple Flash site. That’s probably as low as I would go for a complete site, actually. $2000+ for something complex and fancy

Thanks to all the replies.

The thing is, that Im just playing with flash (webdevelopment), so I have no idea how much is enough. The site doesn’t have that much to contain, so in my oppinion $1000 would require more than what I have planned to build. HOWEVER, there really isn’t much else to put on the site then what they have provided. And everything they have provided gets to go on the site.

Heres what I have so far: http://www.pixeladdict.dk/IDHair/idhair.htm

  1. Id like to know how the menu is?
I kinda like it, but then again I think it doesn’t go THAT well with the design.

  2. This is the best way I can think of to incorperate the logo, since its quite bulky. How do you like it?

  3. General design and arrangement?

I don’t think the red really goes. :\

And the guy the in the picture doesn’t seem too happy with his hair. :\

Animation is slick. Nicely done.

Overall it could use a little more contrast… perhaps white body text would go better with that dark grey background.

The font on the preloader isn’t embedded properly - for me it just showed in Times New Roman. Click the textbox, and on the Properties panel, click the ‘Characters’ button. In the Characters dialogue, select the stuff to be embedded, like so:

Do the same for any Dynamic Text boxes which use fancy fonts.

Try centering the Flash movie on the page, and perhaps have it popup inside a toolbar-less Javascript window.

lol. Yeah, I think it needs more of an ultra-contempo vogue fashion-model kinda shot.

Hehe - thanks ya3.

I think the guy in the shots are actually the owner!
(maybe he’s just the model, but…) he is in all the photos I have, that need to go onto the website.

Thanks for that font embedding thingy.

Can’t centralize the flash since the logo effect is made in PS and what you see is all there is. ALTHOUGH…

Id love to make it a pop-up. That was my first idea, but I don’t know how to write the code in thml to make a centered pop-up window in the size it needs (950x600).

Can you provide a downloadable html with the code perhaps ???

I just asked him, he said it cost them something like £30,000!!

I can’t belive how much the spent on such a simple site…

I’m moving to London then…

Dude seriously, your dad should hire a lawyer of something if he’s paying so much fot that website.

lol

He is a lawyer

Lewis Silkin is a law firm

How long ago did he purchase said website?

Dunno, quite rescently I think.

He didn’t purchase it, the firm bought it, my dad didn’t have anything to do with the website, I assume it would have been the IT department (apparently one of the best, if not the best, law firm IT departments in the country).
