Fill Noise?

I’m trying to figure out how to get noise on a fill in Flash5.

I’m really curious to find out how Blitzds created this menu they have:

www.blitzds.com

When you get into the site there are four bubbles chained together at the top of the screen. When you mouse over one an arch appears with a menu on it. The arch starts out as a noised up white arch and fades to a transparent blue.

Can anyone tell me how they think blitzds made that fuzzy white arch? I have been racking my brain and I just have no clue…(unless it’s some script thing that’s way beyond me)

Thanks,
Scott

Well, here’s the best I’ve been able to come up with…

You create an image file of white static. One one layer you have this ‘static’ image moving around to make the static seem live. Over that you have an arc shaped mask that has faded transparent edges. The edges of the mask morph/wave around to create the uneven effect.

That’s probably not it, but maybe it will stimulate some conversation

Static in flash is usually done with an imported image from Photoshop or another art program that has the ability to add noise. Your method is common in this effect.

Yeah, by ‘image’ I meant an image created in Photoshop or whatever.

Did you check out http://www.blitzds.com ? That arc effect looks so dern…well generated, like it’s not made from an image file.

well its a movie clip that is played when you hover over the button. May even be part of the button. It fades in, and it fades out. Not much else to say about it really. Nice effect.

Getting the noise movie clip right is the only difficulty. Putting it on a button like that is easy.

Really? Like and avi or something? Wouldn’t that be kind of large file size wise? I downloaded their SWF file and the whole thing (audio and images included) is only 800k!

What Cynegenica is refering to is a movie clip made in flash that contains an animation of the noise images created in a program like Photoshop.

Thanks Electrongeek, thats what I meant.
Its a seperate animation used over again on each button.

ah, so you are pretty much agreeing with my second post’s suggestion then.
