Hey hey, I just made the switch from IE to Firefox! :pope: Anyone want to tell me some handy shortcuts? :pleased:
why wait? Dump IE now while there’s still time! FF is great even though it’s not a full version yet.
I’ve been using .9 for a week now.
It is more stable than my latest and greatest IE installation… it crashes at least once a session due to corrupt code usually.
I’ve been using Avant Browser as a replacement for IE for a long time now. Check it out at www.avantbrowser.com. It’s completely free, and owns. Firefox rocks too, but I’ve had some crashing issues.
Hm, I downloaded it but never installed it. I mean doesn’t it simply run offa IE? So I mean, it simply takes already buggy browsing software and adds features that FF has, well as far as I can tell. But I guess if your hardcore reluctant to change, avant it is! I eventually will need to try it out for myself.
Ehh, I liked firefox, but avant is about the same speed. And most everything runs on IE (people don’t usually make sites that dont), so I don’t care. AVANT has a WAY better nav too. No other windows besides ONE that can go to the task bar. Complete tab-based browsing. With great options too.
Well FF has a good interface also, IMO… and it has tabs also. And the fact that people make sites that are sloppy is just frustrating for designers pushing for standards… not that I completely can comply. I jsut believe in standards, and if MS wants to considered a serious browser provider, it needs to take browsing seriously. Someone in another thread put it best that we don’t need MS telling us how to better enhance our browsing experience and doing it for us; we need simple, stardards compliant browsers with accesories available.
Off topic: Disco, I’ve always LOVED your footer/screen name. He’s one of my favourite characters! And since you went seizuring… whoa! haha
I’d definitly agree on the standards issue radioxromance. But I can’t handle the “multiple windows with tabbed browsing” thing. I want ONE window/running program, where all my browsing can go on. That is why I’m not using firefox yet. If they made avant FOR firefox, I think that would be the best way to go. You just can’t beat the interface.
off topic: thanks! I’ve actually been using this screen name for around eight years now… (1996). I had to create an email for my new ISP, and I had just watched that episode. And the siezuring sig is kind of neat to stare at for a while… I need to start messing around with sine waves and such for randomness.
you do know that you can turn off the tabs, right?
Is anyone else having problems with window.open() with 0.9? Whenever I click a link, instead of opening whatever.asp in a new window, it tries to open www.whatever.asp
[edit]nevermind…I think this was a problem with the single window extension[/edit]
@disco-stu – if you install the tabbrowser prefs for firefox(once they get it working with 0.9) you can set it to single window mode
[edit] TBP works with 0.9…just need to use the workaround[/edit]
hmm by single window… what does that mean, like it shows all the windows at once? Cause my tabs are all in the one instance of FF running, so I didn’t understand. ?
radio - single window extension[url=“http://www.extensionsmirror.nl/index.php?showtopic=290”][url=“http://www.extensionsmirror.nl/index.php?showtopic=290”]
I like tabbrowser extensions the most, but I haven’t been able to get it to work with 0.9. I have [url=“http://www.extensionsmirror.nl/index.php?showtopic=112”]tabbrowser prefs now and it works pretty well
oh thanks, thats actually something I want as it is, I’m simply right clicking and hitting new tab… thanks I’m getting that
:edit: when I tried to install it, it doesn’t work? I don’t know how extensions work. I went to the page and it had like a link saying tab extension.xpi or something, clicked it, it opened the extension manager, I hit install, and it went away and all it says is DOM manager or something…
