Fireworks or Photoshop rollover question

Okay I know I have done this before but for some reason cannot remember how. Okay I have a animated gif that I do not want to play until it is moused over. And stop on mouseout. I think this is possible. If you know how to do it in wither ps fw (preferrably fw) please give me a push in the right direction.

I know what you are think it is easier to do it in flash and I agree. But I have a frumpy old client who expressed he does not want any flash animation in any form. (he is hella against this technology…I swear he is related to Jakob Nielsen or something). Anyway hope someone can shed some light.

I suggest you slap your client in the face. Preferably with a fresh fish. Sorry for the unuseful post :-\

I don’t use Fireworks so I can’t help you there but as for Photoshop, you can do it Image ready. There is a button at the bottom of your tool bar that let’s you transfer over to Image ready and from there, there is a pallete at the bottom with with the rollover controls or if it’s not there then go to window > rollovers and it should be pretty easy from there.

Okay I will try that. If I cannot figure it out in FW. I really like to stay with FW because of the round trip editting. Yes this client is very difficult and I would love to bring the good ol trout out of the frig and bring it to our next meeting and hear the wonderful smack sound it will make on his face.

3d, in fireworks help Creating Rollovers > Using the Behaviors panel ( i have fw 4…)

To change the mouse event that activates the behavior:

1 Select the trigger slice or hotspot containing the behavior you want to modify.
All the behaviors associated with that Web object are displayed in the Behaviors panel.
2 Select the behavior you want to edit.
All selected behaviors, except Simple Rollover, show a list of associated events.
3 Select a new event from the list.

there is a mouseout event you can use…its in behaviors i think dunno about fw mx

In FW, you can add behaviors as Mak said, but that is JavaScript, and will require you to paste the info in the right places, but you should be able to do that.

What I would do, is take the first frame of the animated gif, make it your up state (normal HTML), then your rollover source will be the animated gif (endless loop). No behaviors, just simple rollover.

The FW way, is to F8 to a animation symbol, then place in the right position in frame 2… then slice, right click, simple rollover…
