This is my first attempt at a portfolio site. It still needs actual content, every graphic is created by me. How does it look? What can I fix? It might have some spelling errors on it. I was trying to fill up some space for now as I work on it. Thanks for opinions…
it needs color
lol, I sort of like the black and white scheme. The acutal “portfolio” content will be in color.
i like it, good work :thumb:
i agree with yeldarb tho, consider adding some colors
A little bit more color, and a new font for the top banner. And it’ll be awesome.
Other than that, it’s good.
Thanks for the replies. What type of font would you reccomend?
It looks really good! I think you should use a more fluid font, because of the wavy 3D art on the bottom. I don’t think there needs to be color, but it just looks too square to me. Maybe it is because you mix fluid shapes right next to hard edges like for example, the navigation. You have those awesome tenticles, ( spelling mistake:) ) and then a hard arsed box around all of it, ya see what I see? Really great, and I can’t really talk because I suck extremely! Keep up the good work!:pleased:
boost your framerates for all movies.
what are they currently at right now? i recommend 30 fps or higher.
more combo of colors, dont use pixelfonts for big text but good trans
First of all: I really like it.
I think that there is no need for colors when you use colored images as content.
I found only one point that I personally would change: the 3d gel buttons!!!
Not that they are done badly, but they don’t look like a part of this site: it’s so clear, crisp and 2d…so why these buttons? Invent some other great buttons, just like the one you use for the main menu…only my personal opinion!
I also think that you could add some color or if you want to make it B/W, use stronger contrast, for the moment, its all grey variation. I’d would also suggest to choose a better font than the roman one, it doesn’t fit so well with the pixel one. Also, why not making the menu so when you click an an item (portfolio for instance) the previous one goes up.

Thanks a whole lot for the tips. I will fix it up with some of your suggestions when I work on it again.
Edit: oh, its set at 20 fps…I thought that 20 was around the standard, is using 30 more popular with you all?
logo should be linked to home…the space between fonts and that stroke around is too close…all rights reserved should be mentioned somewhere navigation should open and closed on click…its a good start!
peace
well… i generally prefer 30 or higher. i’m only a college student and not a professional flash developer (yet), so i couldnt tell you what the industry standard is.
however, some of my buddies and mentours over at ultrashock who are professionals have been know to use 60-64 fps :o :o
wow…65, lol, I didnt know that it could go that high…shouldnt 30 be enough? as far as I know about video games, 30 fps is pretty much the maximum that your eyes can percieve. Anything above that is overkill…
Edit: oh also k+…you said you were a college sutdent looking to be a flash developer? Do you mind saying what major you are working on and what college you go to? I am considering going into that general field in college…3d animation, flash, etc…thats pretty cool that you’re doing that…
hmm… judging from my counter-strike expertise (cough), there is a deffinately a more visual stimulance going on when I get my 280 fps
btw, when i say “visual”, I really mean geek-mind. lol.
