are these fonts which are already installed on the system but not in flash?
I have fonts in a separate file, not installed in the system folder.
Normally i add them by using ATM deluxe, when i’m working off of mac classic.
in mac classic, all you had to do was drop the font onto the system folder, and the computer would ask you if you would like the font placed in the appropriate place. you’d say ‘yes’. the font would get placed into the font folder in the system folder.
but when i tried that with mac os x, it says that the folder can’t be changed.
any thoughts? really appreciate it.

There are three libarys that you have access to if you are a admin. There is the system libary, the user libary (your very own, no one else can touch it), and the plain old libary. Just navigate from your harddrive -> Libary -> Fonts and drop it in there. If that doesn’t work, then you can go into your home folder -> libary -> fonts and put it in there. If all those don’t work then you might have to talk to whoever set up the computer and find out if they can do it. That should be everything, if not more than you need.

Alex,
I was successful in depositing a “truetype” font into the [ hardrive>library>fonts ]. thanks.
step 1 accomplished.
[alex, what is a “home” folder? i’d like to try that, too.]
ORIGINAL PROBLEM REMAINS: how do i add fonts to my Flash MX menu? I added the font like alex suggested to my hardrive>library>fonts folder, and the truetype font isonoD.ttf (isonormD) still didn’t show up in FLASH. I’m thinking they need to be very a specific type of font? anybody know?
thanks again,
steven
A home folder is where your settings are contained. No one who isn’t you or doesn’t have administration access can access it. It contains your libary which is the library of different things that you can access. If you have fonts that you don’t want someone else using the computer to use then you can put in the fonts folder in your library, and no one else can touch them. Your home folder also contains your desktop folder (it’s where your desktop auctually is in the system, so you can just drop stuff into there), a documents folder (good for jamming junk into), a movies folder (iMovie defaults to putting your movies in there), a music folder (getting self explanitory here), a pictures folder, a public folder (other people can see what is in your public folder, and can put stuff there if you have set it so that they can), and finally a sites folder where you can store your website (aka. localhost/yourusername).
Next thing. Any font that works for the system should work for Flash, you might first have to restart flash, log-out - log-in, or reboot. That should do it.

just add your fonts into the fonts folder in your user library and restart your computer so mac osx recognizes the fonts it sounds stupid but its what you have to do
#1: to Senocular, ABK, and Grimdeath;
Much thanks to you guys for your assistance.
I’ve tried all of your suggestions.
Still no go.
I’m guessing that isonorm (truetype) is a weird font that just doesn’t work with [either] os x or flash mx.
Does anyone know if Flash MX can only use special fonts?
thanks again guys! you rock!

Why don’t you send the font to me so that I can check it. Just click a email button below.
-Alex K
Alex,
doesn’t appear to be an [attachment] ability.
if you give me your email, i’ll send the font to you.
are you on a mac using os x?
thanks,
steven
I replyed to your email and you can just reply and attach the file to that. I’m running Mac OS 10.2.6 (X).

SOLVED!
[ Alex, thank you for your MUCH assistance. ]
here’s what i did to solve the problem:
found out the various locations that Flash MX gets its fonts from
[hard drive>library>fonts]
[hard drive>system(for the os x)>fonts]
[hard drive>system folder(for os 9)>fonts]
removed some fonts from each file
restarted Flash MX
the change took place immediately
flash no longer carried the fonts i removed
took out the isonorm font that i had placed in “system folder>fonts”, thinking it may be conflicting with the “library>fonts” version.
(however i noticed that the “arial” font was in both. so maybe that’s not it.)
isonorm still did NOT show up.
i also noticed that the fonts in Flash MX ended with the notation TT, not ttf (which is what the isonorm font was named (isonoD.ttf)
so i changed the name of “isonoD.ttf” to “isonoD TT” [removing the period AND changing the endtag to TT]
“quit” Flash MX. started Flash MX and …
voila!
Font is now running IN FLASH MX!
to those who helped: you guys ROCK!
i hope this helps someone in the future!
