Font problems with flash mx PLEASE HELP!

hey hey,
i am having trouble getting fonts to work in flash mx. I have Memphis loaded into my fonts folder and it is available in Photoshop 7.0 but wont show up in any of the macromedia products (flash, fireworks, freehand, dreamweaver all MX) Is anyone else having this problem, what am i doing wrong?? Also, there are some fonts that are these random chinese characters in the font menu in flash, but when chosen as a font to use they arent chinese characters on the screen but rather just a type of font. I was wonderng if Flash doesnt recognize the names of these fonts and makes random characters or what??? I really need Memphis to show up in flash
PLEASE HELP!!!
i am running mac osX Jaguar
thanks
P

This has really never happed to me. But all i know is that you have to restart Flash MX in order for the fonts to appear. I had the same problem you have had with the chinese text. It could be either a false text or its a only CAPS text. Which menas that all the letters are in the uppercase. (press CAps then type as you would normally do)…

hey xero, thanks for the help, unfortunately i tried restarting and that didnt work either!!! it totally sucks cause i need that font for this website, if you have any other ideas would love to hear them…im getting all these weird symbols in the font list within flash mx that should come up normal (example, in the font list it shows me dingbat characters for the name for memphis…really weird)
Also can you recommend a font manager (ala ATM) for Mac OSX Jag…that might solve the problem, i dont thin ATM is out for OSX yet…but there may be others

thanks xero and anyone else who can get me outta this jam

if your using a mac (i suppose you are) go to the hd and go to the system x folder then library, fonts install your fonts here. If that doesnt work go to you users folder and install it in you users font folder. One of these method should have your font working.

Grim

hey grimdeath,
the fonts are installed in the user --> library --> fonts folder, your not allowed to install them in the system --> fonts folder cause those are system specific fonts (for mac i think times, arial that sort of thing)

thanks for the help though…pretty just frustrated a this point, wonder if its a macromedia thing…here is an example of the title of the font i see when i look at my font list WITHIN flash, or firewors, or dreamweaver etc:

%MAdobeSanMM_1450 1450
%MAdobeSanMM_1450 50

weird huh…
thanks all
P

another thing if your using osx wich i suppose you are try installing the fonts into the system 9 folders, this folder also includes a font folder its kinda stupid but it might work try it and let me know if it works.

P.S. is the font mac compatible???

Grim

hey grimdeath,
thats a solid idea, ill try it and see if it works,
also the font is mac compatible, i got it from this graphic designer running os 9

the fonts are memphis and Agaramond, do you have either??
if so are they working???
cheers mate

In my experience I’ve run Suitcase that allows you to turn on and off fonts in the system and thus far my fonts have worked in Flash. I use osX.2 as well.

Are you using the font in static or dynamic text boxes? I’ve run into font issues in the past but only with dynamic text boxes, in which I embed all characters in the options window.

Parker

I had the same problem because there seems to be about a million ‘Fonts’ folders.

I put mine in;

computer—>Macintosh HD---->Library----->fonts.

This works fine for me.
If they don’t show up there then I have no clue.
