Don’t know why, but I fixed it and I want to share my experience with you. So if anyone encounters such a problem, this might be the solution for you as well. I’m using Flash MX on WinXP.
*PROBLEM: I’ve been testing a font for my website. It worked fine up until today. Then I republish the movie and all the font looked corrupted. ***See attached images. EVERYWHERE the font was used in the movie it looked messed up. No other font was affected.
**NOTE: **For all my attached MCs and sounds, I put them all inside “iscMC” (inside its 2nd frame) which is on the 3rd frame of my main movie. This way, the preloader will start near 0% and fixes the problem of the user not seeing the preloader until all attached items are loaded. Many of you are familiar with this technique. For those MCs, I leave the “Export in first frame” option unchecked.
**TESTING: **I started my “debugging”/testing by copying and pasting chunks of frames into new fla. If the problem didn’t occur, then I knew that it wasn’t in those frames. Eg, I copied frames 23 to 93 (last frame) into a new file and tested it. Problem did not occur so I knew it was caused by something in frames 1-22.
I got down to frame 3 where the iscMC was. I went inside and deleted all the sounds therein, retested and the problem remained. Next, undo, then delete all MCs. HA! Problems fixed. Hmm.
**SOLUTION: **Narrowed it down to one MC (called ttMC). Solution: I removed it from the iscMC and just checked the “Export in first frame” option for ttMC in the library and everything solved.
Don’t know why this happened. I have NO idea right now. But the solution wasn’t a “cheat” so I’m moderately happy about it. I just am curious as to know why this happens.
