For guitar buffs only

1:25 - 3:30

Flawless execution of what might be the hardest live guitar solo ever written. Pretty cool.

love playing this on expert on guitar hero… thats some hard stuff

Imagine playing it live on a real guitar ; )

^ guitar hero does not count. Ever.

Great technique, won’t deny, but it sounds horrible.

Hahahahah, guitar hero on expert is still mighty difficult… but I agree, I suppose, its nothing like the real thing (obviously, i shouldn’t even have to say that) and the live solo has some extra more awesomer stuff

Buckethead’s got mad skills

Buckethead in my eyes might just be the greatest Guitar virtuoso to this day.

That being said, maybe not the best guitarist, but certainly the greatest virtuoso. : )

I think there is a lot more to guitar then fast solos. Honestly most of them are just really fast, or drawn out. They have no real emphasis and are “look at me I’m uber skilled at guitar but have no creative sense”. There’s a lot more to music than just guitar, and I feel the great players need to learn to incorporate the other instruments in the band to their solos / music.

For this reason I think Adam Jones from Tool is really great, the music is never about one instrument, but all together with crazy time signatures.

Also, Mike Einziger from Incubus has some crazy good stuff. http://youtube.com/watch?v=3ZEeyuWZwW8 Long song but great use of all instruments.

I respect that syous, but I think you’re talking about people like Yngwie malmsteen (Hey I’m super fast and play the same apeggios!).

Buckethead is really creative, if you take the time to listen to his material. That’s why I refrained from using the term “Greatest guitarist” because there’s a lot to it, but when it comes to the just plain excellence in technique and creativity I think he’s among the top people.

Oh he’s good, no doubt. Malmsteen, Herman Li, etc are just yuck.

Joe Satriani imo

Incubus is sooooooo gooooooooooooood liiiiiiiiiive ugh

true musicians

Can’t say i’m a fan of their latest stuff though

Buckethead rocks.

For sheer creativity and meshiness with other instruments, David Gilmour’s got my vote

There’s only one contender…Frank Zappa. Seriously, go listen with an unprejudiced ear to some of the solos on any of his LP’s (Hot Rats is definitely a recommendation or, if you can, get your hands on a copy of Lather) and consider the range - from jazz, through funk, pop, and on to metal. Or just buy any of his instrumental releases, such as Shut Up N Play Yer Guitar or the sublime Transfusion.

Hey… I really love Frank Zappa. I spent many years of my life digging through his work.

That being said, although he’s incredibly innovative in many ways, I wouldn’t place him anywhere near some of the other people mentioned in this thread already

It didn’t sound that great in that video… meh must just be the sound set up.

Ocean is my favorite solo’s ever though even over dave matthews (not by much).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aZpD0btOZx8&feature=related deserves a honorable mention hahah

Pretty psycho to keep 2 scales in your head, have to say :stuck_out_tongue:

Nice vid temp, i love that style of acoustic

Obviously the musical knowledge required to play a guitar far exceeds the mimicry that is Guitar Hero - but as far as just plain dexterity goes you gotta give some credit to those crazy Guitar Hero kids. Heck, certain songs are way harder on Guitar Hero than they are on a real guitar - Weezer’s My Name is Jonas comes to mind. The intro is easy on a real guitar, but on expert in GH it’s significantly more interesting.

Dude, Malmsteen might be a huge jerk with bad hair and an ego the size of Maine, and I’m not a fan of his music either, but he’s undeniably a ridiculously great guitarist. (Unfortunately.)

*edit:

*Also, I can’t find quite the proper YouTube clip, but **Leo Kottke **is an *amazing *fingerpicker. I’m a big fan of rock guitarists and all, but I think that for overall difficulty stuff like this takes the cake. :stuck_out_tongue:

Yeah, u can definitely find a lot of info online for beginning guitar – and most of it is free. All kinds of videos on youtube and stuff – but beware…

I just got from the “beginner” level to the “intermediate” level – but it was with help from an online course that I had to pay for. I had started with the free stuff but the problem was that I couldn’t ORGANIZE the free lessons in any kind of moderately rational way… I was always switching between various videos and there was no order to anything. So I was trying to do scales when I should have just been dealing with really basic picking technique and etc.

So eventually I decided I need to do an actual online course – http://consumerfilter.org/products/jamorama -- it actually worked pretty well! I might recommend you try it out.
