I think there is a lot more to guitar then fast solos. Honestly most of them are just really fast, or drawn out. They have no real emphasis and are “look at me I’m uber skilled at guitar but have no creative sense”. There’s a lot more to music than just guitar, and I feel the great players need to learn to incorporate the other instruments in the band to their solos / music.
For this reason I think Adam Jones from Tool is really great, the music is never about one instrument, but all together with crazy time signatures.
