It depends upon what resources are needed. Flash I charge about 50 an hour and that’s because I don’t have a name for myself in the industry. Basicaly my girl sublets her work to me, takes 30% and hands me the rest. So you can guess from that that she’s charging around 60 - 80 dollars per hour. Given that she’s been an art director once, and has been freelancing this field for a decade… I think that’s a pretty standard price for good work from an individual with an art degree.
Then of course there are tougher things. Developing a shopping cart… the price goes up. Developing a whole site from scratch, rather than working on a preestablished one… the price goes up.
I will say though that this past year she’s been forced to take a 20% cut from her rates in order to find work… so keep that in mind. You don’t want to underbid… but over bidding can lose the whole thing for ya.
so that you know the work is in flash. A bit of front end design and probably some database integration although I don’t know much more than that I need to give a ball park hourly rate figure asap
People can ask for $60AU per hour here for really really basic flash stuff.
As soon as database comes into the picture I would charge a lot more.
You could consider giving them a set quote, think about how much time you need to spend on it and then what its worth to you.
I just gave some prices for html/flash for my girlfriends work, I gave them an example based on their current site.
I said if they provided me with the photoshop files for it. I would have charged $600 and taken me 3-4 days to do it.
9-5 for 4 days works out at like $18ph. So when they see an hourly rate of $18 compared to $80-$200 they have to like it.
I know for a fact that they charge $80ph for HTML, and considering that their designer that is doing it doesn’t even know what a frame is, and has probably never looked at HTML as she uses dreamweaver…. Well need I say more?
Incidentally I would have sat up all night and had their site done in 1 day…. $600 for a days work wouldn’t be bad.
yeah, they want a rough hourly quote now and I have very little information on the project at the moment other than some of it will be database driven so its impossible for me to give a quote on the whole thing
