Ok, as graphic/web designers

…we must have all reached a pretty uniform scale of pricing.

Now, one thing I realise is that folks who find me through the net, or via recommendation, have a “certain” idea of what a website might cost them. I tend to work to a clients budet, figuring that although Im a “html/dhtml/javascript hand coder”, Im currently learning new Flash skills whilst I play with making their sites, and therefore whenever the word “flash” gets mentioned, I tend to under price.

For example, we (there’s two of us) completed in June a really yukky dated-style-site with over 60 pages (including iframes/chromeless user driven pop-up windows, disjointed rollovers etc, touch of flash and a whole lotta changes…trust me…it was pregnancy all over again).

Because we are a new company, and welcome the opportunity to show what we can achieve, I charged £1000. (I know…thunk…but hey, we got a TV advert off the back of it…grin)

So, do other designers have a “rough hourly cost”, even when budgeting with clients comes in?

Im not shy, I charge £30 per hour roughly, and Im still undercutting the “commercial boys” in my small-target-market. I still do all the travel/consultancy/phone support and photos free, figuring we are still finding our feet. I would add, that as a 3D artist, Im an award winning-tutorial-writing blonde dyslexic…and justly proud!..but, hey, c’mon, spill beans and let me know what going rates are, especially in Scotland.

set your budget, depeding on your client’s budget and your ability to design and create.

when you do, never go back on your word…never to any client for many reasons, one reason is that some clients won’t take you seriously if you do.

The funny thing is that hourlay rates are all over the place. Not to blast my fellow Kirupians but the percentage of professional web developers here is not that high, so I’m not sure what kind of rates you’re going to pull from here. I have worked for 3 different web development firms and my rate that I was billing clients while I was working ranged from $70 - $120 and hour. (US).

A lot depends on what area of the country you are in and what type of client you are catering too. I’ve built sites on under a thousand budget and I’ve worked on sites with 50k + budgets.

Well thanks Ethan, now I’ll just go off and shoot myself. :frowning:

:stuck_out_tongue:

Why? The pie is big enough for you to have some too.
