During a recent telephone conversation I had with a web hosting company, the man said that I could upload my files using internet explorer. He said that instead of using the http:// that I could use ftp:// followed by the web adress, an example being ftp://oneandone.co.uk
This does not work and I’m not sure what he means. All I get is the page not found page.
Can anyone throw any light on this? I am totally confused.
Also could someone send me an ftp address that does work so I can see what he is talking about?
you have to use your own website address after “ftp://” so like if your website address was “http://www.brintonwhite.com” you should use “ftp://www.brintonwhite.com”
But at the moment I don’t have a web address, that’s why I phoned the web hosting company. How do I send the files to the web host if I don’t have the address?
Thanks for your time and yes, I’m very new to this.
yeah you can use IE to log onto ftps though i wouldnt recommend it, its a good option if you cant install a ftp proggie though like at work lets say but anyways in order to log onto a ftp with username and password it would look something like this
ftp//:username:password@yourdomain.com
or
ftp//:username:password@your.ip.address
just a tip for the people using IE for FTP, though smart ftp is the best its free plus it supports FXP one of my personal favorites
