Gamer documentary

This is a good documentary about gaming made by a student in the UK. If you can stand his horrible accent (just messing with you English) I suggest dl’ing it. You need divx to play it.

The fastest dl i could find for those of you in US, is the planetquake3.net one and the texas location.

What have you guys got against our accents? :stuck_out_tongue:

I dunno. we speak far better than any Ameeeeerican :stuck_out_tongue:

well… I do anyway :beam:

English accents clearly rock.

Oh, and do I sound as Chatham-y as I think I do???

um… i dunno… I’ve never met anyone from Chatham other than you.

Good point, well made. :stuck_out_tongue:

bows gracefully :stuck_out_tongue:

just watched it. some interesting points, but he didnt really touch on anything new. it was pretty much the same arguments over again. lol, the problem is that only ‘geeks’ and ‘gamers’ will actually have access to it/watch it

I’m a gamer (well, i used to be til exams arrived ;)). Though now that I’ve ‘quit’, I don’t think I’ll be going back to it in the same big way that I used to.

I don’t think he’s made the situation for gamers any better, but I dont think he’s made it worse either. I try and break away from the stereotype… I think that’s becoming more common now, especially with the erruption of web design (lots of interesting people entering the scene) and also films like, well, the Matrix (predictable - yes, I know, I’m sorry ;)), it’s becoming increasingly ‘cool’ to know about computers/to be good with them. Web design and computer art especially. it’s used everywhere and people are starting to see that it’s not just ‘geeks’ that do it. it’s interesting, vibrant people with cool ideas.

The main purpose of this documentary is to address the main pre-conceptions people have about gamers, ie: is it really anti-social? is it only for geeks? is it a non-productive use of time?
hmm, his description is somewhat vague imo. with the appearance of playstation and the console wars, there’s been a large increase in the number of ‘casual gamers’. I think he’s really addressing the idea of pc gaming, and more specifically, online gaming. I dont think it’s especially anti-social. sure, I didnt talk to the rest of my family as much as if I hadn’t been gaming… but the sheer number of people you’re interacting with across the globe surely must count for something? Either way, I’d have to argue that is obviously more productive than say… watching the television.

In my personal opinion, I think the rest of the world is finally starting to “accept us”, though, I try and push away the from the stereotype as much as possible. obviously there are plenty of people that are geeks and nerds, but there is a line between computers and cool, and it’s becoming increasingly blurred. which is nice.

people should read this article - it’s very interesting. and just goes to prove that we were right all along. perfect ammunition against parents and friends  and also, completely undermines the idea that gaming is anti-social!
