Hey man… I took a look at these three paragraphs that you had and just expanded a little on the concepts you’d already writen. Feel free to scrap it if it doesn’t work for ya. Good luck with the assignment.
Assumptions
Assumptions are caused when people don’t have a full grasp of a situation. If they choose to create a truth based upon feelings about a given situation, the subject is creating an assumption. Sometimes they are created by an individual, but more often than not, they are created by the ‘feelings’ of a ‘mob’ of people.
Assumptions occure when one is confronted by the unknown, or the frightening. People do not like being perceived as ignorant, or weak. Rather than allow either, a person will often create a false image to make himself apear more intelligent. The happens quite often when an individual is faced with a strong public opinion. The larger the mob, especially of one’s peers, the more power it has over individuals.
The effects are almost always damage to an innocent person. Assumptions also lead us down ‘false’ paths in life, hindering individuals from discovery of the facts. Just as a few individuals can arouse the hatred of a group in Salem Massachusets, to burn innocents at the stake, or Hitler’s propaganda machine can convince a continent to turn against a perticular religious sect, assumptions hide the truth to protect people from their own fears and shortcomings.
