Help! Ray of Light Tutorial

Hi,

I’m really enjoying the ray of light tutorial, but I’ve run into a brick wall with step 9.

My version of Flash MX doesn’t have the menu option Modify/Transform/Edit center, and I don’t know how to move a symbol’s registration point after the symbol is created!

Can someone help? I don’t want to progress until I know the center point is okay.

Right-click on the Symbol, select Edit. Then just Move the symbol in relation to the “+” in the center of the stage.

The Ray of Light tutorial calls for things to be extremely well aligned. Is that the only way to do it? I think it may be better to start over than to try to move the symbols now and keep them perfectly layered.

OK, here’s what I did.

Used the transform tool and moved the little crosshair to the place indicated in the tutorial.

Saved the file as Flash 5

Opened the file in Flash 5 to check the registration point with the old modify/transform/edit center option.

It had changed fine!

Back to MX.

I’m going to keep going now with the tute… we’ll see if everything turns out okay.

thats a LONG tut, i coudnt stick with it, if you dont mind, would you post the final result? i would love to see it.

Sure!

I completed this using a goofy test word, and it came out okay. For some reason, I got a slight motion tween on the letters in the light layers that I’m not pleased with. Probably due to the letters scaling along with the light graphic.

What I’ll do is start in on the graphic I’m actually interested in creating, and come up with something to fix that tween. After I’m done, I’ll post it for you.

PS. I’m cooking Thanksgiving dinner this year and haven’t even started yet! I better shut down Flash for now and get going, huh? It’ll probably be this weekend before I can do anymore/post the result.

Suggestion: Don’t use “y” on the end of the word. It doesn’t work well.
Suggestion: Don’t bother naming all of the movie clips. It just wastes time.

Hey there!

No, I was on an extended sabbatical from Flash I’m afraid. I had to come up to speed again in VBA/MS Access and do some rather heavy development with that since about August.

But I’m getting back into the fun stuff now!
