its the LOGO. The logo is awful. 1960s. No wonder…
[edit] actually, the logo is way to bright compared to the backdrop. It gives the feeling that the logo is floating around, not attached and could be removed. of course, the logo is supposed to be here for the exact opposite reason. It is the main part of the header, whether the logo is ugly or not, that’s what should be emphasized, not the alphatized diagonal tv-lines on the nice estate houses.
You could give the logo some effects (dare I say “filters”??) to blend it in more seemlessly. And you could give a shot at fattening the “serving Sta Monica…” without enlarging the font. It would be 1) more readable 2) settle the logo on top of a strong base, making it more important (thus, allowing you to tone the logo down without losing its impact) [/edit]
EthanM> Well… What do you think I should change on the buttons, make them more round and take off the bubble look?
Pomme_> Yeah I can’t do anything with that logo. I hate it too. I asked them if I could changed it and they said no… I will play with the logo and colors some more:thumb:
I think what you’re struggling with is that the re-design is compositionally the same shape. When I hit this brick wall I generally scrap what I’m doing and start again but deliberately avoid whatever I did the first time round.
There’s nothing wrong with the logo - it’s just how it’s incorporated into the design; maybe try and use a background colour with less contrast?
Yeah I dont think the logos that bad either… its the way it blends or doesnt blend into the header that causes a problem… Also the buttons DO look dreadful… Im not fond of the bubble look and the pinkish candy color to them… However I love the space you have left for content, easy to navigate and I think in the end it will make the job easier for you… by the way I think dyaddesigns.com looks great
