How is this done!?!?!?

Check this link out http://www.xs-engineering.com/ and look in the header at the cars that rotate through…before they rotate out some of them have a “outline” type of effect. I’ve seen it on other sites and its nothing new…but does anyone know of a technique to create that effect??

I am thinking that it is just another image on another layer with just the “lines” on the car stroked. Then a tween is applied and that image is gleened through the other layer???

LOL Makke sense?

Thnx :flower:

Its a mask.

Create a layer that contains the outline of your object. If you are using the line tool to create it then be sure to select all your lines and go to Modify/Shape/Convert Lines To Fills otherwise it won’t work because you can’t mask lines, only fills.

After that, create a layer UNDER the layer of the outline, and create a verticle white rectangle, you can create whatever shape you want, but im not getting in depth with that.

Create a movie clip out of this shape, then double click the clip to edit it. Create your tween in here of the rectangle movie across the outline area.

Go back to the stage where your outline layer is… right click on the title of the layer (not on a frame, but on the area that contains tha layer name) and choose “Mask”, it will then set the mask to the layer underneith.

Not hard at all.

You can also do frame by frame animation on it as well, just use the pen tool and trace the outline of the image.

Next use frame by frame animation and delete pieces of the outline in each keyframe.

Thanks guys…I’ll try each…but I am wondering how do you create the outline,…with the pen/pencil? and would it be easier to create an outline in photosop or ill. and import it???

You guys rock…thnx!

Same concept:

And you can’t draw the outline in Photoshop, because then when you import it, your mask will be nothing but a big square. Masks go by shape, so any transparent areas don’t matter, since any image you export out of Photoshop will be square or rectangle, your stuck there.

that is amazing but it takes along time i guess

I had to make an effect like that recently…I doubt it’s the right way, but it worked anyway …
Since I cant trace in Photoshop and bring it over, I traced it in Fireworks and with Fireworks and Flash both open, I just drag the outline from Fireworks to Flash. (-:

hahaha sweet sonofa*****… never even knew that… i was like wtf why wont this mask…
