How to use 3D models in flash!

I downloaded some 3d models from 3dcafe.com in 3ds format but I can’t open them in flash! How do I use 3d models in my flash animations? I don’t have swift3d because it is not available for mac os x yet! :frowning:

you cant actally run 3ds files with flash… :x

so I can’t import any 3d models into flash? stupid question what if you take an airplane and you want to make it roll using the arrow keys, then how do you show the plane rotating with having a bitmap per frame?

Not funny! There has to be a simpler and better way!

well unless you can export to vector… thats the only way i know about… :smirk:

Sorry, but Swift is the only way, and only for PC…

otherwise, it is frame by frame…

Rev

thats the only way, unless you make the 3d thing and animate it in Flash and that would require insane AS…

sounds to me like you have seen some shockwave content, and thought it was flash based,

ever heard of director, its easy to learn, osx based and you can just import your models and drag and drop actions that will give you the ability to rotate in 3d in real time.

just a thought.

swift.:goatee:

yep definitely check out director mx or director 8.5 ,

and by installing the havok plugin to director you can get these results!!!

I had a look at the havoc examples, but they lag a lot! What I mean is that when you try the car game for instance, the background “hops” along as if it was done frame by frame! Not very smooth!

not for me? , you talking about the Raycast Car or the remote control car?? both run fine online for me , try to download them.

if you want to get into some serious making games for direct x , there was this program that nvidia was running a competition for to win the geforce 4 ti, forgot the name of the program , but you could have realtime graphics through direct x. ill try to find the name of the program.

edit::: http://www.quest3d.com/

program is called quest 3d.

hey that’s wicked, I didn’t know you could import 3ds models in swift 3d!!! :D…nice!

Only using suift 3d you can do that =)

yup…that’s still great though…
