Well, I’m recovering.
*Immediately when everything started “crappying out” (at exactly 23:09 Jan 8, 2010. I still have no idea how the malware got in), I killed the computer and booted in from a Live CD Linux distro I had laying around (and somehow all the ones I use regularly are still in America, so I was a little stuck). As the distro didn’t work with my “mobile internet” I was stuck without internet. I really had to McGuyver myself out of that situation.
I could go on how I bravely slayed the dragon and now am living a peaceful life again, but I’m worried it’s head is still lying around on my hard drive waiting to jump up and bite me again.*
I’m now looking into a few more AntiVirus tools than just SpyBot Search & Destroy, and I see several recommended online.
However, I’m not going to download the first free system maintenance program I see. I need to know it’s actually safe.
What programs do you guys know are safe and use to hunt down malicious processes? (Note, for my own safety, I will be ignoring recommendations from users with less than 200 posts)
